We have many children in our school who speak another language or have family all over the world who might speak languages other than English. We like to celebrate this and encourage those children and their families to share this with their class or the school.
We have learnt some Makaton. We learned what it is like to talk with our hands and used our newly found skills to accompany our speaking and singing. It is good fun and helps us to remember words by using actions and to experience what it might be like for someone who can't communicate solely through speaking.
Languages that have been shared by children and families in school include Hungarian, Swedish, French, Italian, Cantonese, Mandarin, Welsh and Punjabi.
We might answer the register in the language of the term; sing a song; learn how to count to 10 and say words such as hello, welcome, thank you and good bye; and find out some information about where that language is spoken.
Which language would you like us to learn to speak a little?!
Can you share a language with us?
Please let your child's teacher or Mrs Bancroft know!
2107-18 Term 5: Maia (Owl class) chose Italian.
Term 6: Akshay (Owl class) is teaching us some Punjabi.
