PTA Annual general meeting - 11th October

Hi everyone! We have a NEW DATE for our Annual General Meeting which is now happening at 3:30 on Monday 11th Oct (in the school hall). There will be a creche available so you can bring your children with you.
Please pop it in your diary and let us know you're attending by using this link: https://bit.ly/3ksW3o1_PTA_AGM
Come along to find out more about what we've done in the past, what ideas we've got for this year (and please put forward your own ideas!), and see how you can help support us over this next year. ????
As well as general helpers for setting up and/or running events, we need people to take on the ten main roles that make up our PTA committee. Please think about whether you'd like to be the next Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, Secretary or one of our class representatives. It's very rewarding and you'll get to mix with some lovely fellow parents and carers.????
We're really looking forward to some face-to-face social events at school this year, they are lots of fun! ❤️
Thanks you x

Census day special menu - 1st October 2020

Dear Parent & Carer

Census day in school this year will be on 1st October 2020. On this day, one of the things that happens is that we submit our school meal numbers for the day. Meals on this date and also on a date in January, are averaged and the school then receives funding based on this data.

As an example, if 150 children took lunch on both Census days, the school would receive most of the money to fund 150 meals per day for one year.

If more than 150 children took lunch after the two Census days, payment for additional lunches would be taken from of our main school budget. So if 180 children took lunch on a particular day, school would have to pay the cost of 30 lunches.

Therefore, it is in our interest to have the highest number of children possible take up lunch on Census days, so that we can obtain the maximum school meals funding. This leaves the main school budget available to spend on the children in other ways, such as books, classroom resources, enrichment activities and even staffing.

Please see attached the special Seaside theme menu we will be offering.

Year 2 visitors from Yorkshire Building Society

Year 2 children welcomed money experts from the Yorkshire Building Society this week to help develop their money sense. They shared the reasons for saving money, what money can be spent on, wants and needs and even where money comes from. There were interesting ideas such as " Money comes from the gold mine" and " Money can't buy you all of the things you need". To end the session, the children impressed us all when they applied their learning from Maths lessons to solve real life problems.
A big thank you to our visitors!

Chandag Infant School welcomed five Wellsway School Sports Ambassadors to their assembly on Tuesday. The Year 9 and 10 students were all ex-Chandag Infant School pupils and they came to highlight the many benefits of taking part in sport. Nathan, Phoebe, Rhona, Issy and ? described their own sporting journeys and brought in their medals and trophies to share with the children. All the Year 1 and 2 children enjoyed the assembly and hopefully some of them will be coming back to Chandag Infant School as Sports Ambassadors in 8 or 9 years time! Many thanks to Mrs Burston for organising the assembly and to the students from Wellsway who were amazing and inspiring.

Welcome back and Happy New Year

Dear Parents and Carers,

Happy New Year and welcome back to term 3! We hope that you enjoyed the Christmas break and related festivities and are feeling refreshed for the year ahead.

We have been delighted with the way that the children have settled back in to school today, with many of them being excited to see friends again.

Our assembly this morning focussed on continuing our Growth Mindsets by developing the skill of ‘Resilience’. The children enjoyed this book https://www.amazon.co.uk/Most-Magnificent-Thing-Ashley-Spires/dp/1554537045 , which you may like to look out for at the library or listen to you Youtube. It tells the story of a ‘regular girl’ who wanted to make something ‘magnificent’, and the challenges she meets along the way. She does eventually create her own ‘magnificent thing’…

We will be finalising dates for terms 3 and 4 in our Staff meeting this week, with the intention of alerting you to these by the end of the week. Look out for a Phonics Check briefing for Y1 parents and a SATS evening for Y2 parents to name a couple.

We aim to use this section of our website more and more as we go through the year, with regular updates being added ‘Blog’ style rather than a word document newsletter. We hope you find in helpful.

 Kind regards

Mrs A Smart and the Staff team
